Shabby Chic For Kids

These bedrooms are just adorable in pink, white and beige. This shabby chic style for kids would work equally well in a big period home and  a cute, little white painted weatherboard cottage. The mix and match of the toile, florals and paisley is fresh and creative. I love the old world charm and the reference back to yesteryear.

Kids Spaces

How cute are these rooms with their mix of pastel hues and printed florals? I love the vintage feel with the patchwork quilts, handmade toys, the old wooden rocking horse and I love that tee pee! They are full of life and character and look like they would provide endless hours of amusement for their little inhabitants!

Cute As A Button

Images via Leibowitz and Mclachlan

This designing duo from Sydney have found the perfect balance when it comes to decorating kids rooms. They are fresh and simple with lots of white on white. They usually throw some pastel shades into the mix to create some interest. They use textures really well in the form of cane baskets, sisal flooring, cotton and linen fabrics. The soft toys, vintage car, cute doll's pram and fun artwork all make the space feel very personal. I love their use of open display shelving - a great way to store things neatly and add some colour. They also have a clever knack for adding quirky finishing touches like this hand painted mural on the kids' bathroom wall.

Vintage Finds

These kids spaces all exude charm and character. They each have something unique to offer. Sometimes one needs to think outside the square to create something extra special. Hunting around second hand shops, antique stores and flea markets can present you with some quirky interesting ideas - think wooden blackboards, vintage toys and old school furniture. Remember those fantastic wooden desks with the lift up lifts we used when we were kids. Things might need a lick of paint and some new life breathed back into them but they'll add personality and fun into your children's rooms.

Kids Corner

Here are some great fun spaces for kids - they all have a vintage element to them which gives them character and personality. Notice the absence of brightly coloured, plastic toys in all of these spaces. As a designer, I much prefer old fashioned toys like rocking horses, wooden dolls cots, soft toys and kids timber furniture to decorate kids' rooms. I think it creates a calmer space and a sense of history for kids to grow up with.

By Gone Days

Here's a little vintage inspiration that brings back happy memories of my grandmother. She had some many fabulous curiosities that made every visit an adventure as I rummaged through wardrobes, dresser drawers and under beds in search of treaures to play with.

The things I loved about my grandmas' house :-
freshly baked cakes
tea served in china teacups
silver teapots with knitted cosies
vintage hat boxes
gold compacts and strands of pearls
wrought iron beds
garden roses in crystal vases.
