Loving the freshness of pale lemon yellow - you can almost smell the tanginess of a freshly squeezed lemon! There's nothing more thirst quenching on a hot summer's day than a glass of chilled homemade lemonade! Lemon is also a perfect accent colour for a country style decor scheme. It is a warm and inviting colour that works beautifully as cushions, bedspreads ... even a a front door or a cute dining table! I also love yellow flowers because they never fail to brighten up a home!
Here's a little mid week escape - I could happily be here right now, bathed in sunshine and warmth, sitting in a scented garden filled with lavender and rambling roses. Lunch would be alfresco :- crusty bread, olives, local cheese and thinly sliced prosciutto served with a class of sparkling Prosecco. Could anything be more perfect?
One of my favourite summer drinks is sparkling grapefruit. My favourite brand is 'Tiro' because of it's stylish packaging. It's perfect on a hot summer's day - bubbly, refreshing, pale pink and not too sweet. It even has the sharp, bitterweet taste of a real grapefruit. I often serve it at parties to those that aren't drinking alcohol - that way they still feel like they are still having a bit of fun!
One of the best things about summer is the fact that berries are in season, I love them all but strawberries, raspberries and blueberries are my favourites. Stunning layered on top of a pavlova and dusted in icing sugar, heavenly on their own with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, delicious when sprinkled on breakfast pancakes or cereal and perfect as a garnish! How do you like your berries?
It's cold outside, the trees are bare and you can't leave the house without a pair of gloves. It's the time of year that I love coming in from the cold to a warm, comforting meal or a hot drink and a batch of freshly baked cookies. I'm secretly pleased when the first of winter's chilly nights kick in so I can dig up my old cookbooks and cook up one of winter's hearty dishes to warm the hands and the heart! I can't get past pumpkin soap and butterscotch pudding Winter brings with it luxurious treats like pashminas, which I think look great in every colour, cashmere knits and coats with fur trim.
